OPAA Baseball
Guidelines
The following are some basic
guidelines OPAA have setup around the baseball
program.
Please contact your Commissioner with any questions.
Coach
and Team Uniforms
 |
Late registrants
may miss the uniform ordering deadline
and will not be able to order the
appropriate size. The child will be
issued one of the extra uniforms that
was ordered. |
 |
Coaches should
wear a team uniform. These are not
provided by OPAA. |
 |
Kids should
maintain proper appearance while on the
field, hats forward and shirts tucked
in. |
Draft
and Player Evaluations
 |
After the draft
the manager will fill out a roster form.
Copies are made of each team roster to
create the official league rosters. |
 |
In an effort to
keep voting fair in tryouts, each child
will be graded by each manager, each
Asst. Coach and the respective league
commissioner. |
 |
Each child gets
placed in a one of 3 categories, based
on ability in hitting, fielding and
throwing and catching. |
 |
If a child does
not show-up to tryouts they are assigned
to a team at the end of the draft in a
round robin fashion. |
 |
Team Managers will
get their equipment after tryouts or
draft. |
 |
Names of teams
are selected by the managers and coaches
after the draft. The team that was last
in selection gets to pick first.
|
 |
It is recommended
that the managers and coaches arrive to
tryouts 30 minutes early. Each grader
will receive 2 copies of the kid's they
will grade. One copy to hand in and
another for making personal notes. |
 |
Managers bring a
highlighter to the draft to mark off
selections as kids are drafted. |
 |
If a manager or
coach's child does not show up to
tryouts they receive the highest grade
in all categories. This is due to the
child being frozen on a team and not
really playing a factor in a selective
draft. It can be beneficial to have the
managers and coach's kids tryout only if
the child grades in the bottom 2
categories. This would free up a first
or second round selection in order to
select a top ranked player. |
Team
Moms
 |
Uniforms orders
will be made at the Team Mom meeting.
Bring the list of
names to the meeting on the uniform
order sheet. |
 |
Rule books will
be handed out at the Team Mom meeting |
 |
Any uniform
issues need to go to your respective
league commissioners |
 |
Moms are
responsible for coordinating volunteers to
work the Baseball concession stand on
the team's assigned date and time. |

Sponsorship
 |
The expectation
is that each team will be able to get
$500.00 in
sponsorship funds. |
 |
If teams raise a
pre-determined amount, the team will
receive credit towards the team party or
the team awards. These amounts are
determined by the Sponsorship
Commissioner on a season by season
basis. |
 |
The Sponsorship
team will perform different fund raisers
through-out the year, such as Golf
Tournaments, Discount Cards,
Bat-a-thons, etc please do your best to
support these efforts. |
Team
Practices
 |
Practice
schedules are determined after the draft |
 |
Teams will
usually practice 2-3 times a week for
4-6 weeks prior to the season. |
 |
Practices will be
held at the OPAA Complex. Other
practices may occur off site but these
should be optional and the child should
not be held accountable if they do not
attend. |
 |
Managers and
coaches will be given access to the park
lights. Please turn off lights when
leaving park. |
 |
Teams should
repair fields after practice, ruts
around home plate or the pitching mound
should be filled in. |
 |
Please take a few
minutes and look around for trash, and
dispose of it. |
